RM1b bangun Proton City

 

DRB-Hicom Bhd (DRB-Hicom) akan membuat pelaburan baru lebih RM1 bilion bagi pembangunan Proton City, Tanjung Malim, dalam tempoh lima tahun akan datang.

Ia termasuk membangunkan sebuah hab komersial baru dan pelbagai kemudahan lain.

Sekurang-kurangnya dua lagi jenama kereta dijangka

dikeluarkan di situ tidak lama lagi, sekali gus melengkapkan visi menjadikan Proton City sebagai bandar automotif menjelang 2015 atau selewat-lewatnya dalam lima tahun akan datang.

Menteri Besar Perak, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir berkata, pelaburan itu diputuskan selepas DRB-Hicom mendapati Proton City tidak mencapai kapasiti sepenuhnya.

Laporan terkini perancangan ini (pelaburan baru) dibentangkan sendiri Pengarah Urusan DRB-Hicom, Datuk Seri Mohd Khamil Jamil kepada EXCO hari ini (semalam) dan pihaknya sangat serius untuk membangunkan kawasan itu, katanya kepada pemberita di Ipoh.

Proton City, kawasan pembangunan bandar automotif seluas 1,600 hektar mula dibangunkan Proton City Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (PCDC), syarikat usaha sama 60:40 antara DRB-Hicom dan Proton, dengan pelaburan awal RM2.5 bilion pada 1996.

Selain kilang kedua Proton bernilai RM1.8 bilion, ia turut menempatkan Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), lot perindustrian ringan vendor Proton, kediaman dan kemudahan prasarana serta keperluan lain.
Zambry berkata, kerajaan negeri memanggil pihak DRB-Hicom selepas mendapati pembangunan di Proton City perlahan dengan hanya 30 peratus kawasan yang disediakan dibangunkan.

Katanya, beliau bagaimanapun gembira apabila taklimat DRB-Hicom semalam bakal meletakkan semula Proton City ke landasan seperti dirancang iaitu kawasan peneraju industri automotif negara.

Beliau turut gembira apabila pihak DRB-Hicom memaklumkan wakil mereka sudah melawat Stuttgart, Jerman dan beberapa negara lain untuk mengkaji model bandar automotif di negara terbabit.

Kita menghargai komitmen ditunjukkan pengurusan DRB-Hicom bagi Proton City. Diharapkan perancangan besar ini dapat dijadikan mercu tanda setelah terbiar begitu lama, katanya.
